High Tea, The Taming of the Shrew, and Valentine's Day

I have had a pretty quiet week writing papers and studying. But Friday February 13 my friends Hillary, Ashley, Carly, Mariel, and Sarah went to High Tea at the Berkley. It was so fun! We all dressed up and I wore a new dress I bought here in London. They served us on gorgeous colorful china. It was very fancy, they did things like put your napkin on your nap for you. I had caramel pear tea which was absolutely delicious. They served us several different types of finger sandwiches like chicken salad, salmon with cream cheese, turkey puree and others. The theme was "Pret A Portea - An Afternoon Tea for a Fashionista"so the desserts and cookies were designed after designer collections of Fall 2008/Winter 2009. It was all you can eat so they kept "refreshing" our plates and tea. We were all so full when it was over. It was such a great experience, we definitely want to do it one more time before we leave. It is very expensive though, 40 pounds per person! Here is a link to the website:

After tea just Carly and I went to see The Taming of the Shrew which was performed by the Royal Shakespear Company at the Novello Theater. It was very well done and I could actually follow it even though I had not read it. It also helped that the movie "10 Things I Hate About You" is based off it so I could relate to that. The costumes and sets were very pretty. I might read the book this summer, IF I have time :-)

Saturday February 14 (Valentine's Day)
I studied a lot but my friends and I ordered Chinese food which was an ordeal in itself. It turns out that Britons do not have crab rangoon so I was very dismayed about that. But they are very very into "prawns" here, which are shrimp. I ended up getting salmon wantons (salmon rangoon) which was just okay. After that we spontaneously decided to make a Vday cake! That was very fun and very yummy!

I have two finals coming up, on on Monday and one on Tuesday. Then I go to Rome VERY early Wednesday morning. I will write all about Rome when I get back! :-)
