Leeds Castle and Canterbury

Before I get to Leeds Castle and Canterbury...Carly and I went to the movies on Friday February 27 to see "He's Just Not That into You" which was an extremely cute chick flick. But it was very interesting because over here they have assigned seating for the movies. They even have ushers to show you to your seat. Also, the theater were went to did not have stadium seating, it was more like a high school auditorium so if someone tall sat in front you they blocked your whole view. Well, Carly and I ended up being assigned right on the extreme far right with a tall person in front of us. So we decided to risk moving but we were afraid that the people who were assigned our stolen seats would show up. What was really annoying though was that as the previews and even the beginning of the movie were playing, people who had seats assigned in the middle of row made the whole row stand up so they could get to their seats. Everyone had to keep standing up to let people pass and get to their seats. The whole thing was very inefficient.

Saturday February 29 I went on a day trip organized by BU to Leeds Castle and Canterbury which are both located in Kent, "The Garden of England". Carly went with me and our friend Johanna was the trip as well so we all stuck together. Leeds Castle was very pretty and fun. It is kind of like a fairy tale castle because it has a moat around it and everything. It was built in the 1200s and was used as a fortress. It passed out of royal hands under Elizabeth I's brother, Edward. In the 1920s some crazy French lady bought it and redecorated the whole thing so most of the inside is not original furniture or decorations. The castle also had an aviary which was very interesting. We found a parrot that would say "hello" in a British accent.

Canterbury was an a very cute English town. It had little narrow streets and very interesting architecture. The main tourist attraction is the Canterbury Cathedral where Thomas Beckett was martyred. The Cathedral is in the Gothic style and was very large. We found the spot of his murder and walked around the whole church. We meant to go to the Canterbury Museum but we ended up having lunch at this outdoor restaurant, Cafe Rouge, which was wonderful. We walked around the streets and shopping district which was surprisingly huge. I guess that Canterbury is a shopping destination in the area. Right before we left we took a quick walk around part of the old city wall and climbed up "Tower Hill".

That night I went to Cafe de Paris with Ashley and Carly which is this awesome club right in Piccadilly Sqaure. They had great music, great lights, and just a great atmosphere. It was a little expensive though...
