After work on Friday March 6 my friend Domino and Tiffany arrived from Boston. Its BU Boston spring break and they came to visit everyone! Domino is staying in my room They arrived while I was at work but managed to get signed into the building okay. After work I met up with Domino, Tiffany, and Kat on Kensington High Street for dinner. I wanted Tiffany and Domino to go out with me that night but they decided to go the bar “World’s End” in Camdon with Natalie. That night Ashley, Carly, Hillary and I met up with Cate and Victoria at Zoo Bar. Zoo Bar has multiple rooms and the first room we went into was really crowded and had house techno playing but the second room was much less crowded and had hip-hop. I like it and thought that it had good music but I don’t know if I will go back.
Saturday March 7 Hillary, Ashley and I went to London Fashion week right down the street from our dorm. It was an early morning but we woke up to shower and dress up for the occasion. First we walked around the booths and looked at the clothing and accessories. Then, we went to a catwalk show which was awesome! The designers shown were all minor and local but it was beautiful clothing anyway. After the catwalk we walked around the expo more and I saw Vivian Westwood at her booth! I wanted to talk to her or take a picture but I felt weird so I chickened out.
Saturday afternoon I hung out and got some work done. Saturday night though a bunch of us went out to a house party near Earl's Court. The house belonged to Ed, who is friends with this girl Natalie. Natalie is really good friends with Tiffany so we all got invited along. It was really fun! I felt like I was back in Boston partying in Allston! We taught the British people flip cup and beruit. When I was explaining flip cup to a British girl and used the word "chug" she had no idea what I was talking about! She thought that chug meant to get sick! It was so funny. Everyone had a really good time and we stopped at bakery for some munchies on the way home hehe. I don't think I went to bed till about 3 am because I sat up talking to Domino for awhile in my room...I need to hang out with her more when I get back to campus :-)
Sunday March 8 I had a day trip planned through BU to Blenhiem Palace and Oxford. Blenheim Palace was very pretty. I guess it was originally built in the 1700's for a duke that won a German battle for the crown. It was very picturesque and had a gorgeous lake with a bridge. I explored the castle with Kat and we really wanted to go see around the gardens but it started to rain (like it always does here). The castle is Churchill's birthplace and he spent a lot of time there as a child because he was a cousin of the current duke. So obviously the castle had a lot of exhibits and information about him.
Oxford was gorgeous! I want to go to school there! it had amazing architecture and cute streets. I learned that "Oxford University" is comprised of about 40 colleges and each college has about 300 students with its own professors and quad. So when I student is speaking to someone outside of the university they would say "I go to Oxford" but to someone within the University they would specify which college. After a walking tour with a guide, Kat and I went to Christ's College which is famous for its great hall. The great hall is the one used for the dinning room in the Harry Potter movies, kind of. The college would not the movie film inside the hall so they filmed outside on the campus and reconstructed the hall as set to film. I loved the great hall also because it had Alice in Wonderland stain glass! Lewis Carol was a math professor at Christ's College so they paid tribute to him with little things like that all over campus. On the bus ride back I was completely exhausted and past out.
What a good weekend :-)
